When Anurag Kashyap Called Abhishek Bachchan A Bad Actor For His Yuva Performance: He Never Rose Above The Script

Anurag Kashyap and Abhishek Bahchcan may have worked amicably together on their film Manmarziyaan and produced a wonderful product but there was a time when the latter’s performance in Yuva had utterly disappointed the filmmaker. Performance were the highlight of Mani Ratnam’s 2004 film with an ensemble cast and Abhishek Bachchan in his very first negative performance as Lallan was much appreciated by all except the film’s writer Anurag Kashyap. Never one to shy away from sharing an honest opinion Anurag had voiced his disappointment at the time writing on his blog, “If John Abraham is a bad actor than Abhishek Bachchan is equally bad, but who has the b***s to write it? AB was great in Yuva to everybody except me. I am the one who wrote the goddamned lines. I wrote Lallan Singh and they were the best damn lines I ever wrote. And believe me, he didn’t understand half of it. He never rose above the script, but he won all the awards. His talent, and his career, the way it has shaped up are two different things and I do not envy him that. He is loved by people.” Anurag’s disappointment led to him and Abhishek keeping each other at an arm’s length and not speaking for over a decade. The ice between them however melted and Abhishek Bachchan signed Manmarziyaan indicating that the two of them have let the past be in the past. Talking about the whole controversy years later Abhishek had confessed in an interview to DNA, "That’s history now. I first worked with Anurag in Mani Ratnam’s Yuva (2004); he had written it. I don’t think he liked my work in the film (laughs). And it’s only fair because we had spent a lot of time doing readings for the film. So somewhere, maybe he felt a little disappointed when he watched the movie. But we never spoke about it. Now, we’ve put all that behind us." Anurag too explained his side to the publication and spoke about what transpired, "I wrote in my blog that it could have been better. And I think Abhishek took it hard because that was a performance that everyone appreciated. He thought a writer usually doesn’t say such things. We didn’t talk to each other for 10-15 years." Rivalries in Bollywood can last a lifetime and but all Manmarziyaan lovers would be really glad that it ended and both Abhishek and Anurag came together to produce this wonderful film.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui Says 'Personal Life Experiences Are Reflected' In His Latest Film Ghoomketu

National Award-winning actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui collaborates once again with Anurag Kashyap in the new digital film "Ghoomketu", but this time the equation is more than just actor-filmmaker. Although Nawaz stars in the comic drama and Anurag's banner has co-produced it, this time the filmmaker also plays a pivotaal role -- as a corrupt cop. "I have been working with Anurag for so long and we are together on this journey. But on a film set, our equation is that of director and actor. In this film, for first time, he was my co-actor, and in my head I was wondering when he would say ‘cut'! Because that is what I am used to. In my head he is the director (laughs But yes, as a co-actor also he is good. We enjoyed working together in the film," Nawazuddin told IANS. The actor has been collaborating with Anurag since 2007, when Anurag's "Black Friday" released, followed by several films including "Dev.D", the "Gangs Of Wasseypur" franchise, "Raman Raghav 2.0", and the web series "Sacred Games" to name a few. "Ghoomketu" is directed by Pushpendra Nath Misra, and the film also features Ragini Khanna, Raghubir Yadav, Ila Arun, and Swanand Kirkire among others. Nawazuddin shared: "Raghu bhai is an actor we looked up to. This was the first time we worked together but he is such an unstoppable actor! He keeps improvising and at times the director would come and tell Raghu bhai to stop! But seriously, he is a talented actor who can create a piece of art out of two lines! His ability to improvise mindblowing." The story of the film revolves around the journey of an aspiring writer from Uttar Pradesh to Mumbai, to make his mark in Bollywood. Hailing from the village of Budhana, Uttar Pradesh, Nawaz's journey would seem similar to his character in "Ghoomketu". Did he draw from real-life experience to act in the film? "When we come from a small town or a village to a big city like Mumbai, a host of basic things changes and that means a lot of difference in daily life. Life in a big city is very fast -- the speed of cars, the thought process of people, lifestyle -- everything is faster. People are always running, for whatever reason. People are always in a competitive mood. Whether it is me or the director-writer of the film, Pushpendra Nath Misra, we all faced the same problems when we landed here in Mumbai. So, whether it is in his writing or in my performance, our personal life experiences are reflected," said Nawazuddin.

Anurag Kashyap Shares Unseen Posters Of Bombay Velvet, Fans Say It Was Ahead Of Its Time Appreciating The Mega Flop

Anurag Kashyap’s most ambitious project to date and one of the most expensive film in Bollywood Bombay Velvet is recalled to date as one of the biggest box office disasters of recent times. The film completed five years since its release and Anurag shared an unseen poster featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma to mark the occasion only to caption it with a heartbreak emoji. Bombay Velvet is a retro gangster drama that released on May 15, 2015 and was met with a lot of backlash both from critics as well as audiences. The film not only added to Ranbir’s string of flops at the time which had started with Besharam in 2013 and continued with Roy and then this but also marked Karan Johar’s first and last appearance as an actor on the big screen. Today however on Anurag’s post marking the anniversary of the film several fans commented stating that they actually liked Bombay Velvet. Some claimed the movie was ahead of its times while another fan called it Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Pulp Fiction’. The appreciation for the film was no doubt limited but we hope that the filmmaker would be glad to see the support. There were comments dissing Bombay Velvet too but since lovers of the film are very few it was pretty surprising to see them share the love.

Jaideep Ahlawat Completes A Decade In Bollywood, Reflects On Making It In The Industry Without A Godfather

Actor Jaideep Ahlawat has completed 10 long years in the Bollywood industry. He has played several interesting and memorable roles in movies and digital shows and is one of the most underrated actors in Bollywood today. There are actors who entertain the audience, and then, there are actors who also leave a lasting impression with their effective portrayal of their on-screen characters in an entertaining way, and Jaideep Ahlawat is one such seasoned actor who certainly falls in the second category. Jaideep’s romance with Hindi cinema started 10 years ago, with films like the multi-starrer Aakrosh and the Akshay Kumar-starrer Khatta Meetha. But it was Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur (in which he played the role of Shahid Khan) that proved to be a game-changer for this brilliant actor. The epic gangster drama helped Jaideep cement his popularity as an actor among his fans and the industry who couldn’t stop praising his decision of taking the road less travelled by opting for challenging roles. Even though in Gangs of Wasseypur, where his acting prowess was spoken highly of by the media and the audiences alike, he never got his dues and never actually benefitted much after the release of the film as the other actors. In short, he was not much written about. In the world of media, it is very important to get seen and the problem with Ahlawat is he is barely seen. Thereafter Jaideep was roped in to play mind-boggling characters in big-budget commercial movies like Raees, Commando, and even in Tamil cinema like Vishwaroopam. And this happened before he got a call from Meghna Gulzar to portray a RAW agent in the Alia Bhatt-Vicky Kaushal starrer Raazi. We exclusively got in touch with Jaideep and he spoke at length about his endeavour to become mainstream. “I don’t know what is it. The thing is, I was too much into theatre, maybe I still am. This was right from my college days. In fact, I had also enrolled in the Film and Television Institute Of India for the acting course. Another problem is I never had a godfather in Bollywood and neither did anyone from my family belong to the film background,” quipped he. Well, it is more than apparent that it was only Jaideep’s persistent efforts and determination that he has been able to carve a niche for himself in the industry. After these films, his oeuvre in the web platform began to flourish! Well, the actor made an appearance in the anthology film Lust Stories on the OTT platform as Sudhir in Dibakar Banerjee's segment. And now, he is all set to appear in the Amazon Prime Video’s gritty crime drama ‘Paatal Lok’ which has been produced by Anushka Sharma. Paatal Lok is a nine-part series that follows the journey of Jaideep Ahlawat as Inspector Hathiram investigating an assassination attempt on a prime-time journalist and following four suspects. The police-based crime thriller, written by Sudip Sharma, is all set to release on 15th May and is being produced under Clean Slate Films which is Anushka Sharma's banner.
