Deepika Padukone Slammed For 83 Tweet: ‘Patriarchy Is Dying. Let’s Look For Husbands Who Put Their Wife’s Dream Before Their Own’

Bollywood star Deepika Padukone has been slammed for “backward tweet” and promoting patriarchy at a time when women need to be more confident and supportive of womenfolk after she shared her first look her as Kapil Dev’s wife Romi in the upcoming film 83 where she will feature opposite real life husband Ranveer Singh. She posted her look as Romi on February 19. It was the tweet that accompanied the post that didn’t go down well with social media users. “To be able to play a small part in a film that captures one of the most iconic moments in sporting history has been an absolute honour. Ive seen very closely the role a wife plays in the success of her husband’s professional and personal aspirations in my mother and 83 for me in many ways is an ode to every woman who puts her husband’s dream before her own...#thisis83,” she had captioned the image. Also read: Shubh Mangal Zyaada Saavdhan Vs Bhoot Part One box office day 5: Ayushmann Khurrana film slows down, earns Rs 35.66 cr A user wrote: “Just to promote the film such a backward chatter. NOW.” “@deepikapadukone we aren’t in ‘83 anymore. Patriarchy is dying; let’s look for those husbands who put their wife’s dream before their own, in the new millenia?” said one. One user asked: “Will you out your career behind to promote your spouse career?” 83 traces Kapil’s captaincy in leading the Indian cricket team to defeat the West Indies in the World Cup final in 1983. Ranveer will essay Kapil’s role in the film, directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Reliance Entertainment. Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh Want To Work On More Contemporary Films Together After 83

Real-life couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are back as an on-screen couple. The actress says considering the kind of movies the pair has done in the past, doing "83" was a refreshing change. Deepika will be seen as Romi Dev, wife of cricket legend Kapil Dev, played by Ranveer in the upcoming film "83". Asked about sharing screen space with her husband once again after movies like "Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela" and "Bajirao Mastani", Deepika told IANS: "It was good. It was a refreshing change because of the kind of films that we have done before. It was a completely different setting, era, characters, costumes and dialogues. It was refreshing to work with him in this capacity." "We were both surprised. We had to remind ourselves that we had worked with each other before because these characters were so different from what we had already done before and we look forward to working with each other in contemporary films a lot more," said the actress. The film, based on India's historical 1983 Cricket World Cup victory, also has Deepika donning the hat of a producer. "Chhapaak", based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, was her first film as a producer. On the kind of stories she is looking for as a producer, she shared: "My choices will always be made as an actor. When I am approached for a film as an actor, if I feel like certain films need an additional hand holding then I will step in as a producer. Right now, it is not like we have a big slate of films. We will take it as it comes." She has also announced another film production -- "Mahabharat", to be made from Draupadi's point of view. Do regional films interest her as an an actor and a producer? "Of course. Language has never been a barrier. I think at the end of the day, what I look for as an actor is exciting content. In fact, there are a lot of south (film directors and writers who approached me. Eventually, I think it's about finding the right content," said Deepika, who made her acting debut with the 2006 Kannada film "Aishwarya".

Sonam Reveals Anand Ahuja Didn't Want To Ride A Horse At Their Wedding, Did Away With The Baraat For This Reason

While it is an age-old Indian tradition for the bridegroom to make a grand entry on a decked-up white mare, Sonam Kapoor said that her husband Anand Ahuja decided to do things differently at their wedding. In a tweet, she revealed that he did not want to contribute to animal cruelty. “My husband didn’t have a baraat with horses or loud music. For this exact reason,” the actor wrote in response to a video shared by animal rights organisation PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) urging couples to go for horse-free weddings. In the video, PETA brought to light the abuse and mistreatment suffered by horses, and how they were traumatised by the loud music, crowds, and firecrackers burst at weddings. Sonam and Anand got married in a traditional anand karaj ceremony in Mumbai on May 8, 2018. It was followed by a lavish reception on the same day. The celebrations were attended by a host of Bollywood stars, including Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Katrina Kaif, Akshay Kumar, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut and others. Also read: Deepika Padukone dedicates first award for Chhapaak to Laxmi Agarwal for showing ‘what beauty truly means’ Earlier, PETA slammed Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas for the use of elephants and horses at their lavish wedding in Jodhpur in December 2018. “Congrats, but we regret it was not a happy day for animals,” the organisation wrote in a tweet, highlighting animal cruelty at weddings. PETA India CEO Manilal Valliyate said in a statement, “Priyanka was ill served by not being advised of the firestorm that would be caused by participating in animal abuse. It doesn’t make a person look big or glamorous to promote cruelty to animals who have no choice but to serve. It makes them look small. Overwhelmingly, these days, PETA is delighted to see so many celebrities who feel passionately about protecting animals.”
